I first visited The Space at Feather Oaks last year at TPPG’s holiday party and I decided that I had to shoot there! I took these two good friends out to see the stables and we were totally surprised when little A got some horse snuggles! Just totally unprovoked, this beautiful horse approached him at the fence and just kept nuzzling his head. Adorbs.

Had the pleasure of photographing this sweet little girl at Maclay Gardens last week, and while the color images are divine (truly, it was hard not to post copies of each), I saw so much more when I took the color away. I’m so obsessed with black and white photography these days. I see so much more personality and emotion when I’m allowed to just view the subject, their lights, their darks, their grays. This little girl was such a joy to take pictures of. She was busy, talkative, excited about EVERYTHING! Just beautiful.

The weather is perfect today, but in the last few weeks of shooting I’ve been dealing with some rainy shoot days. In between thunder storms, we were able to get the K family in for an afternoon session downtown.  You know a session where we photograph the family is weird alley ways is always going to look cool. They were great sports and I think the session turned out perfect. They’ve been patiently awaiting a sneak peek and here it is!

My friend and former coworker, Blair, is expecting a little boy in June! We are so excited for her and her hubby! She and I recently spent a late afternoon in a field getting a few images to remember this time. She’s such a beautiful pregnant lady! Can’t wait to meet her little one in just a few short weeks.

It really, really is.

Mary Brenna is just about to graduate and head off to school, but not before her parents were able to convince her to come and see me! She arrived without frills, free of make up, and guitar in hand. Her natural look was the perfect contrast to our industrial art park shooting location. The next 2 hours were spent laughing, discovering locations I’ve never photographed before, and watching for snakes and broken glass. (Modeling is hard!) I don’t think I took a single photo of her not smiling. She has the most infectious smile and laugh of anyone I’ve ever met. She’s an extremely talented musician and she even gives me a Janis Joplin vibe in her photos. And now I feel really old because I used the word “vibe” and am talking about Janis Joplin.

It was such a pleasure hanging out with Brenna. Such a natural beauty. I feel like I made a friend. Enjoy just these few. I’d show all 40 if I could!

Way back in January I made a huge stink about getting back to finding my creative voice and then I promptly didn’t do anything to make good on that. But you just wait, I went nuts in April. I shot all kinds of personal projects and experiments that I can’t wait to show. I’m actually even thinking of starting a THIRD website for such things, because I know the world needs more personal websites. More on that later. For now, I’m going to show off what I’ve been holding back on posting because I was waiting for March TPPG print competition to be over with. Thankfully it is done and my print (shown above) won in the Illustrative/Open category!

It was an honor to photograph this awesome extended family who came to see me from out of town. They all found themselves in the same city at the same time for the spring holidays and took advantage of the opportunity to have everyone present for photos! We had initially planned on meeting at a different location for our session, but when that was suddenly unavailable, we switched our plans quickly over to Goodwood Plantation where the azaleas were in full bloom! I think we couldn’t have been luckier to have had such a beautiful day at our surprise location. There are so many pictures from this session that I absolutely love, it was really hard to pick just a handful to show on the blog!

Thank you so much, K Family! I couldn’t have asked for a happier, more fun loving, or more photogenic family if I tried! Can’t wait to show you the rest!

I’m so excited to kick off the 2014 Senior Photo Season with Kinsley! Kinsley is an upcoming senior who couldn’t be more photogenic. For her session, we explored one of my old favorite shooting locations. We stumbled onto an abandoned mansion, if you can believe it, and didn’t leave for over an hour! Such a gorgeous location and subject!
